Peugeot's Expert van retains the coveted What Van? Small Panel Van of the Year award 2010.

The Peugeot Expert compact panel van is the ideal choice for today's van users as it can carry a respectable payload in respect to its weight, doesn't take up too much space in busy urban areas, is easy to park and benefits from car-like driving dynamics. Available in two wheelbase options and two roof heights it can accommodate up to 7.0 m3 of cargo and payloads of between 1,000 kg and 1,200 kg depending on model.

It is powered by Peugeot's class-leading HDi diesel engines; a 1.6 litre 90 bhp or a 2.0 litre producing either 120 or 136 bhp.

Load volume starts at 5.0 m3 in the L1 H1 version, increases to 6.0 m3 in the long wheelbase L2 H1 version and extends to 7.0 m3 in the high-roof L2 H2 version. All versions also benefit from two sliding side loading doors to ensure good access to each side of the load area.

The load area has a maximum length of 2255 mm in the standard version and 2586 mm in the long wheel base version and a height of 1450 mm to 1750 mm.

Up front the Peugeot Expert can accommodate three in its comfortable and supportive seats, and all occupants benefit from three point inertia reel seat belts with force limiters and height adjustment on the two outer seatbelts.

Safety is also a strong point of the Peugeot Expert. All models have ABS with emergency brake assist and ESP is available as an option. A driver's airbag is fitted as standard and passenger and side airbags are available as an option with the single passenger seat option. A driver's ladder frame protector and steel cargo stop are fitted as standard on all models to protect the driver in an accident situation.

Driving dynamics have always been strength of Peugeot light commercial vehicles due to Peugeot's wealth expertise in this field. The Expert is based on the same platform as the 807 MPV, ensuring high levels responsiveness, safety and whatever the size of the load.

Peugeot is writing another chapter in history with the release of the iOn: an electric car producing zero emissions whilst being driven, with 4 doors and 4 seats, a maximum speed of 80mph* and a range of 80 miles. In 1941 Peugeot designed its first electric vehicle, the VLV. In 2010 Peugeot continues this commitment with the iOn.

The iOn joins the range of environmentally focussed vehicles already announced by Peugeot, such as the hybrid versions of 3008 and RCZ, the 207 99g Économique and, most recently, the BB1. All of these illustrate an ongoing desire to reduce CO2, fuel consumption and running costs.

Electric vehicles form a key part of policymaker’s strategies for reducing CO2 in the near future. This can be illustrated though various incentives and exemptions that electric vehicles are eligible for, such as;

• Large subsidies available in many European countries

Most major European cities also have firm plans in place to improve the infrastructure associated with electric vehicles with the introduction of dedicated charging points (22,500 points in London by 2015).

Developed in collaboration with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, iOn has been designed for ease of use, both in terms of driving characteristics and charging of the lithium-ion batteries, from which the vehicle takes its name.

Re-charging can take place either at home or at a dedicated charging station. When charging via a standard 220 volt socket full charge can be achieved in 6 hours. When charging from a dedicated external station it is possible to re charge to 80% in just 30 minutes. In motion the iOn drives in the same manner as a vehicle equipped with an automatic gearbox. Due to the fact that the motor does not generate any significant noise there is an audible alert that the motor has been activated and the iOn is ready to drive. A battery charge meter indicates the amount of charge remaining on the vehicle, in place of a conventional fuel gauge.

Although iOn is clearly suited to an urban environment, thanks to excellent low down response from the permanent magnet synchronous motor and its compact dimensions, it is equally adept on the open road thanks to performance comparable to many conventionally powered cars. The iOn will also be a practical solution for many motorists as it boasts 4 doors and 4 seats. The combination of these attributes produce a vehicle with all the virtues of electric, zero emission motoring but with little compromise versus a more traditional motor vehicle.

There will be no compromise on safety or comfort, iOn will feature ABS, traction control, ESP and six airbags as well as electric windows, air conditioning and a range of audio equipment.
