Waters Kia Presents The New Kia Venga and Sorento

Waters Kia is proud to present two new Kia cars to Chingford and St Albans locals this month; the brand new Kia Venga and the all-new Kia Sorento. Compact yet spacious, the Kia Venga is an MPV meeting the growing consumer demand for functional yet compact style, while the redesigned Kia Sorento offers affordable, off-road elegance for any driver looking for a robust and reliable 4x4.
Both the Venga and Sorento are backed by Kia’s outstanding and industry-leading 7-year warranty, offering Chingford's and St Albans' motorists long-term peace of mind.

“This is an exciting time for Kia and we’re delighted to see these cars on the forecourts,” explained Brett Kavanagh, Marketing Manager, Waters Kia. “While the Venga and Sorento offer very different packages in terms of motoring needs, they have much in common; style, comfort and versatility, as well as strong design, reliability and value, all essential to any motoring investment. If Kia’s recent success is anything to go by, I’m sure they’ll prove as popular as the rest of the Kia range.”

The brand new Kia Venga: Small is beautiful

Offering family space in just four metres of car, the Venga starts at £11,495. Built exclusively for Europe and designed from scratch by Kia’s Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, the Venga brings sensational good looks and fun-to-drive character to the B-segment market. Proving cleverly versatile, the Venga has perfected the art of turning every millimetre of its interior into passenger and luggage space with easily folding and sliding rear seats and hidden compartments. The Venga is clean, quiet and fuel-efficient, with the diesel EcoDynamics version emitting just 117g/km of CO2.
All models are well equipped with every Venga coming with air conditioning, driver's seat height adjustment, electric front windows, remote central locking and tinted glass. In-car entertainment is taken care of by a high-quality six-speaker audio system with full MP3 compatibility. For safety and security, all Vengas have six airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Brake Assist (BAS) and Traction Control (TC). Venga 2 models add 16-inch alloy wheels, body coloured electrically adjustable heated door mirrors, an iPod cable and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. The Venga 3 is the top of the range model and comes with climate control, a panoramic electric sunroof and privacy glass on the rear windows and tailgate.

The Kia Sorento: re-invented

With a focus on sleek design, better road manners and more flexibility, the new Kia Sorento starts at £20,495. The Sorento takes into consideration the consumer demands on an SUV; urban sophistication with design quality that can withstand anything from transporting family to towing horses. With more efficient, cleaner engines, the new Sorento offers both two and four-wheel drive and options in five or seven seat versions. Benefiting from improved capacity for passengers as well as luggage, the new Sorento is the third Kia, after the cee'd and Soul, to be awarded a full five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. All models are fitted with anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) as well as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) featuring Downhill Brake Control (DBC). Six airbags (twin front, side and side curtains) are standard.

New diesel and petrol engines, new six-speed transmissions and the choice of front- or four-wheel drive mean there is a Sorento to suit all types of use while keeping fuel consumption and emissions low – good news for both pockets and the environment.

Every single Venga and Sorento will benefit from Kia's unique seven-year/100,000-mile warranty. First introduced by Kia on the European built cee’d, the seven-year warranty now applies to ever model in the range and is unrivalled across Europe. It remains the greatest statement of belief in quality that a manufacturer can offer and is transferable to future owners should the car be sold during the duration of the warranty.

Customers Urged To ‘Buy Now’ Before Scrappage Scheme Ends

• Government scrappage scheme exit strategy confirmed
• Customers advised to ‘buy now’ to avoid disappointment

Waters AutoPlanet has welcomed the news that the Government will share out the remaining scrappage scheme budget based on retail sales in 2009. Consequently, we will get sufficient funding from the Government to satisfy customer needs for the balance of the scrappage scheme. However, with limited funds now available, we are urging customers to ‘buy now’ and take advantage of the scheme quickly to avoid disappointment.

“This really is the only fair way the Government could have divided up the remaining budget,” commented Brett Kavanagh, Marketing Manager, Waters AutoPlanet. “It is good news for the public as based on our forecast for 2010, we will get sufficient funding from the Government to satisfy our customers’ needs for the balance of the scrappage scheme.

“However, it is important that any customer considering purchasing a new car through scrappage takes advantage of the scheme sooner rather than later, as the final phase of the scheme is a smaller allocation of funds and customers may be disappointed if they wait too long to make a purchase,” added Kavanagh.

“Most manufacturers have not yet announced their post-scrappage plans, but it is reasonable to assume that once the Government money runs out any offers from the majority of manufacturers will not be at the same level. We are advising customers to make the most of the offers on the table now to avoid disappointment.

“Our manufacturer partners have ensured that vehicles are in stock for customers wanting to take advantage of the scrappage scheme and we can call off all model lines for early delivery. While we have seen 75 percent of our scrappage sales going to smaller cars, we have also seen family cars selling well and even sportscars have been purchased through the scheme,” concluded Kavanagh.

Waters AutoPlanet has wholeheartedly embraced the Scrappage Scheme since April and currently supplements the Government’s £1,000 with additional payments of between £1,000 and £5,000, which means even more added value for owners changing their ‘old' model for a new car.

Stunning Hat Trick As Peugeot Dominate What Car? Car of the Year Awards

  • 3008 voted What Car? Car of the Year 2010

  • 3008 tops new Crossover category

  • 5008 voted MPV of the Year

In a stunning start to its 200th year, Peugeot has scored a magnificent hat trick in the prestigious 2010 What Car? Car of the Year Awards, winning two category awards as well as the overall Car of the Year title for the standard-setting Peugeot 3008 Crossover.

The 3008 is compact and spacious with a host of useful driving features available such as grip control, dynamic roll control, a heads-up display, distance alert and Hill Assist automatic electric parking brake. It successfully combines the best features of a saloon car, MPV, SUV and hatchback to deliver flexibility, space, rugged looks and driveability.

3008 also respects the environment with an efficient range of engine options producing emissions starting at just 130g of CO2 per kilometre. A hybrid version, available in 2011, will push the boundaries of low-emissions family motoring even further.

In fact, the 3008 has proven such a compelling all round package that What Car? introduced a new category to accommodate it: the Crossover. Naturally, 3008 was also crowned winner of this new category.

Explaining why What Car? chose the 3008 as its 2010 Car of the Year, Editor Steve Fowler said: "The 3008 oozes clever thinking. It is styled in a striking and user-friendly fashion and has all the room inside that a modern family should need. Some of the features are a delight, like the full-length glass roof, the head-up display and the massive cooled storage bin between the front seats. Mind you, the rest of the car is pretty clever, too; the rear seats fold flat at the pull of a lever in the boot and the false cargo bay floor means you can get a long or a tall load in. And just as importantly, the 3008 is also comfortable to drive and be driven in, as well as being keenly priced and affordable to run. All of which makes it ultra-desirable and another brilliant Car of the Year."

5008 is MPV of the Year

Adding similar clever qualities as well as sleek styling and driving enjoyment to the utilitarian task of transporting seven people, Peugeot's innovative new people carrier, the 5008, was crowned What Car? MPV of the Year.

With its versatile seven-seat layout, the 5008 has taken the genre to a new level, with good looks on the outside and a truly class-leading interior that welcomes passengers with both quality and space. They can also be specified to connect to the latest in-car entertainment systems through the perfectly integrated 7" screens and the connection console offering multiple connections, as well as Bluetooth.

Getting seated is easy, with a flat floor and three generous middle-row seats which slide and recline individually, as well as two comfortable rear seats. And with every individual passenger seat folding effortlessly into the flat floor, the 5008 offers the perfect combination of seating and huge load-carrying capacity.

With a range of punchy and refined engines with responsive steering and dynamic road holding, the 5008 makes a long journey much more bearable for the driver and passengers alike, while excellent fuel economy means those journeys won't break the bank either.

No wonder What Car? described the Peugeot 5008 as 'compelling' and a 'convincing winner'.

Speaking at the What Car? Awards ceremony last night at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, Jon Goodman, Managing Director of Peugeot Motor Company, said:

"Everyone at Peugeot is delighted to have won the prestigious What Car? Car of the Year award with the 3008. Just like What Car?, our customers appreciate our designers' clever thinking, indeed so much so that we have had to significantly increase production to meet demand since its launch. No other car manufacturer has won this award more than Peugeot and it is a fantastic achievement at the start of the 200th year for the brand to win both the overall prize with 3008 and also the best MPV category with the new 5008. And with the highly anticipated RCZ coming to market later this year, we believe 2010 will prove to be a landmark year for Peugeot."

What Car? Names Mazda6 ‘Family Car’ and ‘Estate Car of the Year 2010’

· Mazda6 scoops ‘Family Car’ and ‘Estate Car’ categories at What Car? Car of the Year 2010
· Mazda6 is awarded for performance, reliability and affordability ahead of rivals
· Fifth and sixth What Car? Car of the Year awards Mazda6

The popular Mazda6 has scooped its fifth and sixth What Car? Car of the Year awards being crowned both ‘Family Car’ and ‘Estate Car of the Year 2010’ at the prestigious What Car? Awards held at the Grosvenor House hotel in London yesterday, (Thursday 14th December). The Mazda6 impressed a panel of three judges with its performance, reliability and affordability after evaluating three cars in each of the ‘Family Car’ and ‘Estate Car’ categories.

Now in its 33rd year, the What Car? Car of the Year Awards compares 392 different models across 16 major categories.

Peter Lawson, panel judge for the ‘Family Car’ category commended the Mazda6 for its practicality, comfort, class, reliability and its fun to drive appeal, claiming: “If you choose wisely, you can have all these talents wrapped up in one car: the Mazda6.”

He added: “What’s more, this Mazda’s resale values are stronger than a body-builder’s biceps.”

Steve Fowler, What Car? Editor commented on Mazda’s double triumph: “The Mazda6 Hatchback and Estate outclassed contenders in the ‘Family Car’ and ‘Estate Car’ categories with its overall package of practicality and good looks proving too much for the competition. The Mazda6 ticks all the right boxes when it comes to company car and family car drivers making an informed car purchase”.

The Mazda6 Estate impressed judges with the same attributes of the Mazda6 Hatchback yet the extra space and clever mechanisms ‘dazzled’ panel judge Barnaby Jones and beat off stiff competition for the ‘Estate Car of the Year’ title .

The Mazda6 range, priced from £16,115 on-the-road, inspired a decisive reaction from the judges and claimed the ‘Family Car’ and ‘Estate Car’ titles from the Skoda Superb and Ford Mondeo in the ‘Family Car’ category, while the Mazda6 Estate outshone the Skoda Octavia Estate and Mercedes E-Class in the ‘Estate Car’ category.

Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director, Mazda UK added: “We are truly delighted that the Mazda6 has been crowned the What Car? ‘Family Car’ and ‘Estate Car of the Year’. These are the fifth and sixth awards from What Car? for the Mazda6, which is further confirmation why the Mazda6 is one of our most popular models in the range. The current model has sold over 22,000 since launch in 2007 and thanks to its high levels of comfort, flexibility, dynamic handling and great engine, it is no wonder that the Mazda6 continues to attract family and company car drivers.”

Mazda6 is offered with a choice of four powertrains and five equipment levels, in a range of eleven colours. Each of the equipment levels – S, TS, TS2, Sport and Sports Luxury are highly specified within its price band. Specification upgrades on the Mazda6 in 2009 included a new standard equipment feature on 15 models from the £18,440 TS2 - Mazda’s innovative safety-boosting lane‑change ‘Rear Vehicle Monitoring System’.

The Peugeot Lion Evolves With a New Look For a New Decade

Peugeot has been an industrial power for 200 years, 2010 sees the introduction of a new look Peugeot Lion. The Peugeot Lion is universally recognised as the symbol of Peugeot since 1858. The Lion first appeared on a Peugeot production car in 1906.

Updated for the 21st century, the new Peugeot Lion, recently unveiled, has become more dynamic, more supple and is now three-dimensional. Standing alone without its blue flag, the new Lion represents a confidence founded on a range of new products set to reinforce Peugeot's position as a leading global vehicle manufacturer.

Today, PEUGEOT vehicles are distributed in more than 160 countries through 10,000 sales outlets and are instantly recognised by their unique Lion emblem. It was, however, on 20 November 1858 that Emile PEUGEOT first registered this iconic trade mark. Now in 2010 the Peugeot Lion evolves further with a new look.

The Origin of the Lion

The Lion emblem was first conceived in 1847 when Jules and Emile PEUGEOT, who founded the company Peugeot Frères, asked Julien BLAZER, a jeweler and engraver, to produce a logo for identifying all PEUGEOT products.

The chosen design was a Lion, as the characteristics of the Lion were very similar to those of the saws the Peugeot brothers were producing: Strong teeth like those of the Lion. Suppleness of the blade like the Lion's spine. Swiftness of cut like the Lion pouncing on its prey.

The Lion quickly became Peugeot's sole registered trade mark, and could be found not only on tools and saw blades, but also on coffee grinders by 1881 (the production of which began in 1840), on bicycles from 1882 and, from 1898, on motorcycles.

The Lion Becomes a Part of Automotive History

Although the first Peugeot production car the Type 3, built by Armand PEUGEOT dates from 1891, it was only in 1906 that the emblem first appeared on a production car.

In 1910, the two entities (PEUGEOT Frères and Armand PEUGEOT) merged to become La Sté des automobiles et cycles PEUGEOT; the two product ranges, however, co-existed until the First World War.

The last car to display the "Lion walking on an arrow" was the Bébé Lion (designed by Ettore Bugatti), presented at the Paris Motor Show in October 1912. Subsequent models, however, used old-style lettering, on the top of the radiator grille contained inside a double "ellipse", and in some instances with lettering also on the radiator, either on its own or in a coat of arms (from the 201).

In the 1920s the Lion became a rallying call for "Peugeotistes" who used it as a decoration on their radiator caps. Two types of radiator Lions were distributed in the network, a roaring version by the sculptor Marx and one ready to pounce by Baudichon. For its part, Peugeot bicycles and motorcycles first used the Lion "walking on an arrow" emblem against the background of a spoked wheel; later a fighting Lion facing to the right was introduced in the 1920s and, finally, the same design but with upright lettering in 1960. Tools and domestic appliances opted for the Lion "walking on an arrow" in a coat of arms or on an oval plaque for coffee grinders.

From October 1933, with the launch of the "aerodynamic" range of Peugeot vehicles 201, 301 and 601, a Lion's head re-appeared on the top of the radiator grille.

This design also appeared on the 401, first seen at the 1934 Paris Motor Show and with a tapered head design on the 402 (1935) then the 302 (1936) and the 202 in 1938.

In 1948, the 203 adopted as its figurehead a Lion on the bonnet in a more prominent style. With the launch of the 403 in 1955 another new Lion appeared on the bonnet, however, these two designs were deemed too dangerous in the event of a collision and soon disappeared in September 1958.

The launch of the 203 also marked the first appearance of the heraldic Lion of Franche-Comté and the Duchy of Montbéliard.

It was attached to the boot lid until October 1952 and then migrated to the front of the bonnet from September 1958 until the end of the series in February 1960. During this period the heraldic Lion also appeared on PEUGEOT motorcycles.

The same design of the Lion was also placed in a small coat of arms in the centre of the radiator grille on the 403 range from April 1955 to 1966 before being replaced by a larger version, which first appeared on the Pininfarina styled 404, in May 1960.

It was then replaced by a Lion (gilt or chrome-plated) leaping from its background, which first appeared in September 1968 on the 504, then was adopted by the 404, 204, 304 and 104.

Another generation, the Lion "in outline" appeared on the 604 marketed in September 1975, and then extended to the 305 (November 1977) and 505 (May 1979) before being presented on a black background in 1982 on the 205, through to the 306 in 1993.

At its launch in October 1995, the 406 stood out with its large Lion emblem which rapidly migrated across the entire "six" generation models. This led in 1998 to a new look Lion, with a stylised, angular appearance that decorated the front and rear of both Peugeot cars and scooters.

Now in 2010, the Peugeot Lion, which has been associated with the brand for the last 152 years, has evolved again with a new more dynamic look. Combining a new bi-metallic finish it is now simpler in design, with a new posture and fluidity. The first production vehicle to display this new Lion will be the Peugeot RCZ which will be launched in April.

As Peugeot celebrates 200 years, it is the Lion that has now become universally recognised as the symbol of Peugeot, and it now has a new look in 2010.
